KeseyPollock
KeseyPollock is the collaborative work of interdisciplinary artists Steph Kesey and Erin Pollock based out of Seattle. Their work consist of painting, sculpting, life casting, and photography. They make life size bodies to melt and to tell a story within their photography. They mostly destroy their sculptors then document the process on video or as a picture. Their whole practice is based on the question of strong versus weak. They put weak materials against strong forces, like wax against heat. Their art is often labeled "Video art" but they both agree that specific label does not fit their art. First they only did masks or face castings, but in the past year they have made over forty full body castings. Before starting a full body casting for a show, KeseyPollock sketches out their ideas beforehand. Then through a process of trial and error, they decide which wax to use depending on how it looks when it is melting. They have been able to make this all possible thanks to their Kickstarter project. With their art, they are often asked what the difference is between destruction and creation, or if it is the same. They, like many other artists, have left it up to the viewer to decide.
