Professional Websites
A professional website can be considered a combination of a “personal website” and an “online identity”. It could be considered a personal website because when most individuals decide to build a website, they do so in a professional context; they may visit a personal website service and design the website themselves but do so for professional reasons. A professional website might be considered an “online identity” because it can act as the central node for an individual across the internet. Artists like Spencer Tunick prefer this over other means of social networking because you can personalize it anyway you want. You are able to put whatever pictures you want on it with now restrictions. During an interview with Tunick, he talked about how his Facebook fan page is not very popular and how it usually is not him updating it. He then went on to explain how important his personal/professional website is to him. "My personal site is the most important thing to me. I use it to organize my work and to gather people’s names and information because they can register on my site to participate all over the world. My site has been up for over ten years so I have thousands and thousands of people’s emails. If I’m doing work in a certain country or region, I can use that list to invite people to participate or if I have a book coming out, like I do now, that will be for sale through my personal site. "
